We arrived early at the German embassy who expected us at 12:00 PM to give us a consular certificate for our marriage in Egypt.

They didn’t let us in easily.

They scanned our bodies first and then took our belongings.

Freshly scanned and free from belongings we walked towards the desk of the lady who gave us a piece of paper that once again confirms, "Hey dude, you can marry this beautiful Egyptian lady. We’re cool with it."

Thanks.

But of course, things aren’t that easy when you want to marry a foreign lady abroad AND change your religion from "NO RELIGION" to "ISLAM."

So, we made our way to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Easy.

Well, you gotta pick the right one. Because we ended up at a run-down place that looked more like a construction site than an official building. At least we lost 50 pounds to bribe the police man who, as my fiancé said, begged her for money. Great man, great role model, great piece of shit!

Our next office was better.

Though I’m not sure a mall is the right place for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cairo thinks differently and squeezed four people into a small room who worked their asses off to serve all the Egyptians, Asiana, Nigerians, and this one German dude standing in a line of a shopping center that housed no working shops anymore. Think The Walking Dead atmo with a little bribe here and there to skip the line... not us, them.

Three hours later we were in this squeezed office and asked them to legalize this consular certificate we had just gotten.

They were not particularly fast. Fiancé said, they do the reverse customer service with me, "because you’re German." See, in Egypt when you're a foreigner you are being treated well. They usually don’t dare to touch you because they know when they do the (tourist) police is going to kick their ass. But in this case, because they have some kind of authority, they like to 'stretch' the legalization process and 'work like an Egyptian', taking things slow... suavecito.

Pissed off by their demeanor, I got a bit loud and let off my steam, and then this young Egyptian dude who stood next to me said, "It's okay."

I smiled, I patted him on the shoulder and said, "Yes, it’s alright."
