why tennis makes you live longer 🥊 punchlineday 31

naii.io

how about a sport that gives you an extra 10 years of life

sounds too good to be true

science says tennis can do that...

.
.

if you watched yannik sinner

in the wimbledon final against alcaraz

you can see he is a true champion

and super healthy

but why is that...

.
.

a danish long-term study with over 20,000 participants

found that people who play tennis regularly live 9.7 years longer on average

thats more than badminton with an added 6.2 years

soccer with added 4.7 years

and cycling swimming and jogging

with extra 3.7 3.4 years and 3.2 years

a study of 80,000 british adults also saw tennis squash and badminton as the clear winners

but why tennis of all sports

whats so special about this sport that it makes us live so much longer

.
.

a former competitive athlete and davis cup team doctor has the answer

his name is doctor ulrich lanz

and he has years of experience with top athletes

he says

* tennis forces you to move
* like high-intensity interval training

* tennis is both like a respectful conversation and a brutal fight
* most importantly you cant play it alone
* and social interaction is generally considered an important pillar of longevity according to age research

also

* tennis trains your focus and your ability to course-correct quickly
* if you get annoyed about the last point you can you do better and win the next one

tennis challenges your brain in 3 dimensions

* hands
* feet
* eyes

everything works together

* you have to run
* hit the ball
* keep your eye on it
* and make decisions all at the same time

its the ultimate sports for entrepreneurs

* a mix of responsiveness
* hand-eye coordination
* and multitasking

that creates new connections in the nerve cells

and strengthens existing networks

the brain stays sharp and flexible at any age.

there are 80-year-olds who still play for trophies

but all that is only possible if you get the basics right

* learn the right technique in tennis
* warm up properly
* stretch after training, especially the shoulders

and keep the surface in mind

clay courts are great for beginners

because when you run after the ball

and stop abruptly

which is quite common in tennis

because when you slide a few centimeters before you actually stand still

the braking forces are distributed

and your joints are happy

.
.

and there is a bonus benefit of tennis

when you come from different sport like skiing

jannik sinner says...

in skiing you make one mistake

and you cant win the race anymore

in tennis you can make loads of mistakes

and still win the race

or the wimbledon title

oh, one last thing before you...
i was passionate about basketball
loved to see michael jordan score
but i only had the height of michael j fox
and there was no way for me to go back in time
and find a taller daddy to to inseminate my mom
so i dumped my short-lived career in basketball
rubbed my eggs on many womens’ virginias
and use the the size of my third leg
to turn into a life-long career
